Event 24: Hat-Trick for Seemen

Bart Seemen is from Suffern, New York, like his best poker pal and mentor, Jason Young. He's been playing poker professionally for about six months.
When he's not playing poker, he's an avid sports fan, former division one wrestler at Columbia University and lawyer.
This will be Bart's third cash during the Borgata Winter Open. He finished third in the DeepStack Semi-Turbo, good for over $9,000. He also finished 24th in the $1k 6-max for over $2,000.

He currently lives in Hells Kitchen, New York, where he pursues his acting career. He also sings and produces shows.

Patti Haggerty has been the last woman sitting for quite a while. She's from nearby Brigantine, New Jersey where she manages at the Laguna Grill.
When she's not working, she's playing poker. "What do I do when I'm not working or playing poker? I don't know...I'm always playing poker" she responded.
Patti played the Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship and made it to day three. She returned 65th out of 167 players, with a decent stack, but that's where her run ended.
"Instead of throwing myself off the bridge, I entered this" she said. She got in just before registration closed, so only paid one entry.
She's got several cashes and a final table under her belt, but she's still waiting for her first big win.

At the end of level, the staff colored up the purple 500 chips, then the players bagged their chips for the journey down to the poker room.

Seat 5 opened for 20k, then Edwin Lau (Philadelphia, PA) raised to 65k, then seat 8 moved all-in for 218,500. After a bit of thought, both opponents called. Seat 5 had the biggest stack and pocket Queens. Edwin had the shortest stack and pocket Kings. Seat 8 held AK.

Event 21: Day 3 - Championship Event Recap
It’s midnight and Day 3 is in the books as we say good-by to Borgata Event Center. Rewind to 11:00am this morning when the featured table draw was 14, where WSOP bracelet holders Gavin Smith and Vanessa Selbst battled it out.
From the 167 players remaining, Roslyn Quarto was the chip leader with 450,200, followed by Jack Schanbacher with 400,500 and Adam Wessley with 348,000. The short stack was Donald Dorey with 11,000. Interestingly Roslyn and Adam were paired at the same table #7. Other fun tables included, Table 2: Josh Brikis and Scott Einiger. Table 5: Mike Leah and Will "The Thrill" Failla.
The total entries were 718 for a $2,369,400 total buy in. The final 167 played hard all day trying to make the final 72 and ultimately get closer to the #1 prize of $533,210.
WSOP Bracelet holder Vanessa Selbst, who began the day 7th in chips, found the rail after flopping a straight and losing to quads. With her elimination Roslyn Quarto becomes the last woman standing.
Other big leaders before dinner included: Vadim Shlez, Steve Tabb, Scott Eininger, Tony Campagna, Rich Lyndaker, Chalie Hook, Josh Brikis, Ara Melikian, Mike Leah, and Will Jaffe.
The big story of the day was the bubble. After 45 minutes of hand by hand action...
Bob Courtney (Millbury, MA) had 78,500 in chips and lost his hand. We all assumed he was the bubble until another hand in progress ended and that individual had 500 less than Bob. So Bob was thrilled to discover he was first to cash for $6,665, and wasn’t the bubble.
The heartbreaking bubble was Tim Latouch who had 78,000 to start the hand. His K-Q ran into LJ Sande's J-J which failed to connect on a board of: A-9-5-5-6
1 purple tournament chip (500) is the difference between $6,665 and $0.
When we bagged and tagged at midnight there were 37 players left as time expired.
The chip leader was Or Abramov from Israel who had 1,687,000 and knocked out around 15 players. “I played good today and hope to continue to do the same tomorrow” said Abramov. He was very excited and told me he feels real good. When I asked who was rooting for him at home he said, only me & God.

Savage Busts Djokovic

After action folded to him in the small blind, Trevor Savage (Thorofarem NJ) announced he was all in. Avdo Djokovic (Staten Island, NY) was the big blind and had less than 100k remaining. He squeezed his cards, then called all-in, showing AK off.
This is when we learned that Trevor had not looked at his cards yet. He turned them over and discovered he was dominated with AQ suited.
The board came Q 8 4 3 6 and Trevor paired his Queen to take the pot. Avdo took 41st place and $9,653.

In felting Kenneth Smaron he almost doubled up - close to $500,000.
Gurevich held 8-7 of clubs and saw a flop of Q-2-6, all clubs.
Both players checked the flop.

Barbara Rogers (Lockhaven, PA) just knocked out Michael Aron making him our bubble boy.
Aron had K-K and shipped all in for 16,400. After limping, Barbara called holding 10-9.
9-9-8 on the flop along with a clean turn and river was enough to felt Michael Aron who just missed cashing.
The silver lining for the still smiling Aron is that he has 7% of his friend Jason Deutch. Deutch has 75,000 in chips.
"I'm happy for everyone else" said Michael Aron who was celebrating his loss with a beer.

After the utg player raised, Gavin Smith called from the small blind, then Matt 'muffins' Mazzeo moved all-in from the big for 184k on top.
The raiser opted out and Gavin thought about it, counted out the chips, didn't have much left behind, but opted to make the call. Matt held AJ offsuit. Gavin tabled KQ suited. "Gavin, what are you doin'?" Matt said.
The flop came 6 5 2 rainbow and changed nothing. Turn was a King, however, giving Gavin the lead. Only an Ace on the River would save Matt. It was a 3, though, and Muffins was muffled in 45th place ($9,653).

Shannon O'Grady (Fairfax, VA)Yesterday Shannon O'Grady (Fairfax, VA), was bluffing and playing crazy.
Today however, is a different story.
"I've been short stacked all day. Started with 60 big blinds and was down as low as 6 big blinds" said O'Grady. But most of the day he's been stuck in the 8-12 big blind range.
How does he do it? "Patience. And I had Aces twice and still got called and paid off both times" said O'Grady.
Since the bubble burst his short stack has survived orbit after orbit and he continues to move up in the money. "Now that I've built up this image, I can open up my game a little" said Shannon.
As for tomorrow, maybe he'll go back to playing more like a maniac again. We shall see.
On the blog we like to focus on the chip leaders and big stacks but sometimes riding a short stack and surviving with it can be equally as impressive.
Today however, is a different story.
"I've been short stacked all day. Started with 60 big blinds and was down as low as 6 big blinds" said O'Grady. But most of the day he's been stuck in the 8-12 big blind range.
How does he do it? "Patience. And I had Aces twice and still got called and paid off both times" said O'Grady.
Since the bubble burst his short stack has survived orbit after orbit and he continues to move up in the money. "Now that I've built up this image, I can open up my game a little" said Shannon.
As for tomorrow, maybe he'll go back to playing more like a maniac again. We shall see.

But no one at table two has busted more folks out than one of the tournament chip leaders, Or Abramov (New York, NY). "I think I busted over ten people so far" said Abramov. He busted out two in the last ten minutes. Seems like this kid wins every race he's in.
Through it all, William Pilossoph has not busted. In fact he's the only sole survivor of table 2. "I'm the only one whose been here the entire time" said Pilossoph. Over the years internet phenoms have stepped away from the computers and have joined live play action. But rarely have we seen the likes of Rich Lyndaker (Lowville, NY) who, up until recently, has played mostly on-line high stakes cash games.
Lyndaker, who's known as "nutsinho" on PokerStars and "Kpederson" on Full Tilt, has won millions of dollars on-line playing $100/$200 NL. Now he's branching out to live action.
"I'm trying to do both, but more live and less on-line," says Lyndaker, who just cashed in the Championship Event. This is Lyndaker's second trip to Borgata, as he played in the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship last fall.
Lyndaker got the itch to play in live tournaments when his friend Tom Marchese (Boonton, NJ) finished third a year ago in the 2010 Borgata Winter Open Championship Event. The Card Player points Marchese earned for the deep run, helped propel Marchese to earn the magazine's top honor.
"He won player of the year and I have to try and match that," said Lyndaker, who's also friends with Chalie Hook (Philadelphia, PA), as both are part of the remaining 71 player field.
"I want to travel the country and play in more live events like this," says Lyndaker, and is hoping to hone his tournament skills to play exclusive high-roller events that can cost as much as $250,000 to enter.
But for now his focus is on Borgata and the shrinking field that's chasing the big money topped by the $533,210 first prize. Lyndaker currently has an above average stack with 450k.

Event 23: $300 + $50 No Limit Hold'em is in the books and wow was it exciting. I've never seen so many multiple all-in's with two tables to go.
First cards were dealt at high noon which allowed a couple bust-outs from the Championship Event to jump in, including Blake Purvis and WSOP bracelet holder John Spadavecchia.
Also in the field was Borgata tournament regular Marguerite Spagnuolo (Staten Island, NY).
Great turnout with 172 players battling for the $50, 052 total prize pool of which the top 18 got paid.
Tom "Shamrock" Gilligan (NYC via Sligo, Ireland) was the first player to reach 100k.
Other leaders included, Dwyte Pilgrim (Brooklyn, NY) 80k, Dan Eichhorn (Las Vegas, NV) 78k,
Frank Lomanno (Medina, OH) 75k, Greg Weber (Howell, NJ) 70k, and Michael DiMolfetto (Staten Island, NY) 62k.
Also in the field was Bill Childs (Pinehurst, NC) who finished 9th in Event 22 and the runner up, Angelo Modica. Both gentlemen did not cash.
One of the big three-way-action hands involved Richard Logue's K-10, Mark Gordon's A-K of diamonds, and Doug Adkins K-K. River Ace gave Logue broadway and Gordon the side pot.
A trend developed where the worst hand-in kept winning and destroying big hole card pairs.
Vincent Carbone was the bubble and now all his friends are telling him "he got Carbone-d" as he didn't make any money at all.
With so much action, this tournament didn't last too long - around 1am.
People were flying out and the final table flew by too.

Greg won $15,015 worth of cake to dig into.

It was ladies night at the Borgata Winter Poker Open as two of the top 10 chip stacks belong to women, including WSOP bracelet holder Vanessa Selbst (New Haven, CT) who is 7th overall, just a shade less than 300k. Selbst, who is one of 167 players advancing to Day 3, trails Borgata regular Roslyn Quarto (Edison, NJ) who tops the chip count with 450k.
"A lot better than 20-thousand," said Selbst, who started Day 2 with a below average stack, "not a bad day."
Quarto, who won an event during the September, 2010 Borgata Poker Open, got off to a good start by winning a 150k pot when she turned a queen high flush and knocked out two people who had sets.
"I was playing well and put out a couple of bluffs and got lucky," she said. "You can't accumulate this many chips without some luck. I only lost one flip all day."
539 players returned for Day 2 to continue their quest for the $532,210 first prize, but many recognizable names were eliminated including WSOP Bracelet holders Eric Buchman (Valley Stream, NY) and Ryan Hughes (Phoenix, AZ).
Other notables who busted included: Dave Fox, "Action" Bob Hwang, Farzad Rouhani, Gene Catro, Mike "The Nose Castaldo and James Boyle.
